Sedentary work is much more dangerous than previously thought. This conclusion, according to Washington ProFile, came from researchers from the University of Missouri. They analyzed the processes that take place in the organisms of creatures (humans, pigs and mice), leading a largely sedentary lifestyle. At the same time, the experimental animals were artificially limited in movement. As it turned out, sitting (during work, talking on the phone, watching TV, reading) not only leads to weight gain. In the body of a person or animal that does not move for a long time, metabolic processes begin, leading to serious risks to its health — to the development of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Traditionally, in the United States, doctors recommend that people who lead a sedentary lifestyle, 5 times a week, exercise for at least half an hour. However, scientists from the University of Missouri believe that such a load is clearly not enough to compensate for the problems caused by sitting. The authors of the study came to the conclusion that for success it is enough to take a simple step — to perform some actions not sitting, but standing.
