Causes of acne
Myth: Dirt is the main cause of acne and pimples.
Not so long ago, this reason was really considered the most important, frequent washing and washing of hands was considered almost a panacea for acne. But now it is already known for certain that although dirt can provoke the appearance of acne, it cannot be considered its main culprit in any way.
And the main causes of acne and pimples include:
- Hyperkeratosis (increased keratinization of the skin), which appears with a lack of vitamins A and B2, as well as an excess of vitamins B6 and B12
- Imbalance of fats, with an unbalanced diet
- Disorders in the work of the gastrointestinal tract
- Increased activity of the sebaceous glands
- When using certain drugs (including hormonal contraceptives, anti-tuberculosis and anti-epileptic drugs)
- Elevated blood glucose
- Frequent stress
- hereditary predisposition
Myth: acne is the lot of youth
Indeed, acne and pimples are common among teenagers. This is due to the hormonal changes that occur in the body of a teenager during the transition period. But acne, although much less common, can also occur in people in adulthood. As a rule, this is a consequence of the same hormonal imbalance. Also, the appearance of acne can be provoked by harmful working conditions, the use of certain drugs (for example, hormonal contraceptives, anti-tuberculosis and anti-epileptic drugs) or the use of low-quality cosmetics.
Acne and cosmetics
Myth: You can’t use make-up for acne
We can partly agree with this statement — low-quality camouflage agents can really “clog” the pores, which will provoke the further development of the disease. But if the cosmetics are chosen correctly and are not used at the acute stage of the disease, then it will not lead to a worsening of the situation.
When choosing a foundation or powder, it is important that the product is non-comedogenic (which does not exacerbate acne or clog pores). In addition, there are currently a large number of various tonal and masking products on the market, including those for people with problem skin. The use of such products will not only not aggravate the course of the disease, but, on the contrary, will contribute to its cure.
Myth: Cosmetic cleansing of the skin provokes the appearance of new pimples.
This is not even a myth, but stupidity. Cosmetic procedures can clean pores, improve complexion and general skin condition, but they will not get rid of the causes of acne. And even more so, they will not lead to a further deterioration of the disease.
How to get rid of acne?
Myth: Only by giving up sweets, starchy foods and smoked meats can you get rid of acne.
Not so long ago, this opinion that this or that food can provoke the appearance of acne was quite common. But modern scientific research proves that no diet can completely get rid of acne. Although, of course, a clear imbalance in nutrition, especially associated with the above products, may well lead to a complication of any skin disease.
Myth: Acne goes away when you cleanse your body.
In fact, the presence of toxins in the body is not the cause of acne. And the cause of acne and acne is either hereditary factors or hormonal imbalance in the body. However, a well-done cleansing of the body, as a rule, normalizes the metabolic processes in the body, as a result of which the general condition improves, and in particular the complexion. Perhaps this is the reason for the emergence of this myth.
Myth: The sun helps get rid of blackheads and pimples.
In fact, the «anti-acne» effect of the sun is a myth, and a very tenacious one at that. In fact, the ultraviolet radiation of the sun disinfects the skin to some extent, which reduces the number of acne for a while, and in addition, tanning masks skin imperfections, so one gets the impression of sun exposure.
Moreover, with prolonged exposure to high doses of ultraviolet radiation, immunity is weakened, and the secretion of sebum increases, which provokes the appearance of new rashes. And at the beginning of autumn, dermatologists and practicing cosmetologists have a sharp increase in the number of clients after such a summer “treatment”. There is even a stable expression: «autumn exacerbation of acne.»
Myth: Acne heals quickly
In fact, depending on the extent and condition of the disease, acne usually takes about two to three months to heal. But even after treatment, the skin must be carefully looked after, since it is not yet possible to eliminate the predisposition to the appearance of acne.
