Regular exercise lowers blood pressure
Keeping yourself in good physical shape, you maintain your health and prolong life, once again shown by research
«Regular exercise and fitness activities significantly reduce the risk of hypertension (up to 42%), even in people with poor heredity,» according to a new scientific paper.
“The results of the study prove once again that a reasonable amount of moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking 2.5 hours a week, is excellent for general health, and this is especially beneficial for people who are genetically predisposed to hypertension,” writes author Robin in the new issue of the journal. Shook.
The researchers collected data on approximately 6,300 fit people aged 20 to 80 over a five-year period, with a third of the study population having a hypertensive parent. As it turned out, they had a lower risk of developing hypertension than people who are predisposed to hypertension, but do not care about their health.
Overall, more than 1,500 study participants developed hypertension during the study period. However, the pattern of physical fitness on the magnitude of the risk of developing hypertension was clearly observed: regardless of heredity, people who regularly engage in fitness have a 42% lower risk of hypertension.
Another study, published May 14 in the journal Hypertension, found that people with a family history of hypertensive recurrence and little regard for their physical development were 70% more likely to suffer from hypertension. For people who are athletic and active in a similar situation, the risk increases by only 16%.
«The relationship between heredity, fitness and disease risk cannot be ignored,» said Shook, a specialist at the School of Health at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. “Awareness of the elementary fact that our health, in essence, depends only on ourselves, will help patients and doctors find the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of disease; get rid of hereditary pathologies.
The American Heart Association recommends the following regimen: at least 30 minutes of physical activity (brisk walking, jogging) 5 times a week.
However, it should be noted that all study participants met the following requirements:
— white skin color
— higher education
— high income
Therefore, the results obtained may vary from person to person.
