Lip augmentation. Part 2. Lip lipofilling

One of the most natural, safe and effective ways to add volume and charm to the lips is lipofilling.

The lipofilling procedure is one of the most natural among all the procedures for correcting the shape and volume of the lips, because it involves the use of exclusively “natural material”.

What is Lip Lipofilling?

Lipofilling as an independent facial contouring procedure involves the use of a person’s own fat to give the required volume in the right places. In addition to lip augmentation, lipofilling can help remove nasolabial folds, rejuvenate the eyelids, and improve facial contours. In addition to purely cosmetic effects, this procedure is used in surgery to eliminate problem areas (obvious facial asymmetries), restore the appearance of the face after injuries, etc.

The method of lipofilling consists in the fact that the patient’s fat is «borrowed» in some places of the body and transferred to others.

Lipofilling procedure

The procedure consists of three main steps:

  • Pumping fat
  • Fat cleansing
  • Filling in the necessary areas with fat

At the first stage, a specialist with a syringe with a thin needle pumps out fat from certain parts of the body (most often, the abdomen, thighs or buttocks are used for these purposes). Then he treats the hole and closes it with a special bactericidal plaster. The wounds heal on their own, leaving no traces. After the pumping procedure, the patient rests for about 40-60 minutes.

At this time, the second stage of lipofilling takes place — the purification of fat from excess substances (plasma, oily compounds, dead cells). Sometimes, for better digestibility, special substances are added to the fat.

Then comes the time of the third stage — filling the necessary areas with fat. In particular, fat is injected into the lips with a very thin needle. The resulting holes are barely noticeable and soon heal on their own. Sometimes after the procedure, swelling appears on the treated area. But it goes away in 6-8 days.

Lipofilling is often combined with other cosmetic and plastic procedures (liposuction, braces, lifts).

Advantages of the procedure

One of the most important advantages of this procedure is that the patient’s own fat is used as a «filler». This ensures the complete exclusion of allergic reactions, as well as rejection of the «filler». Moreover, after a certain time, blood vessels penetrate into the injected fat cells, which ensures the completely natural functioning of the “new” tissues.

The second positive aspect of lip lipofilling is that up to 70-80% of fat cells are completely engrafted, which provides an indefinite result. The rest of the cells are excreted from the body naturally. If, after a certain period, it seems to you that the volume of your lips is not large enough, you can always repeat the procedure.

The third advantage of lipofilling is the fact that enlarged lips look and feel absolutely natural. And taking care of them does not require any effort. Consider that you just got a little «recovered» in the lips.

It should also be noted that the lipofilling procedure itself is performed using local anesthesia, which is much less harmful than the use of general anesthesia.

Flaws procedures

lip lipofilling

One of the main disadvantages of this procedure is its price. Compared to alternative lip augmentation options such as gel fillers, the cost of the procedure is not affordable for everyone. The price may vary depending on the level of the clinic, the qualifications of the doctor and the amount of work.

The second disadvantage is, pardon the pun, one of the main advantages of this procedure. Namely, the long-term effect. If the result is not to your liking, then it will be quite difficult to change it.

The third disadvantage may be the negligence of a specialist. If the purification stage was not at a high level, then dead cells will remain in the adipose tissue. And after transplanting to a new place, they can provoke an inflammatory process.

Despite the fact that the lipofilling procedure is the most natural and harmless, it still has a number of its contraindications. These include:

  • Increased body temperature
  • Infectious diseases
  • Inflammation in the lips
  • Pregnancy
  • Blood diseases
  • Oncology

Even if none of the listed contraindications applies to you, you should consult your doctor before the procedure.
